Epic Russian and Scandinavian Legends
The Grandiloquence and Passion of one Talented Draftsman
Frank Cheyne Pape studied at The Slade School of Fine Art where he met and married fellow student and illustrator Alice Stringer. His most beautiful contributions include A Gateway to Spenser : Stories from the Faërie Queen (1910) ; The Golden Fairy Book (1911) ; The Ruby Fairy Book (1911) Sigurd and Gudrun (1912) ; Siegfried and Kriemhild (1912) ; The Russian Story Book (1916). Combining the fine line of an etching with a mixture of superb draftsmanship, incredible capability to render epic situations and passionate feelings, with even at times tongue-in-cheek satire, was something entirely new and earned him immediate success in his homeland till the farthest limits of the world...
